Classic Nasal Mask or Under-the-Nose Mask?

Classic nasal masks like the AirFit N20 sit over the bridge of the nose and seal all around; they also handle higher therapy pressures well. Newer designs like the AirFit N30 or DreamWear attach below the nose: The bridge of the nose remains free, glasses can be worn, and with the model that has the hose connection at the top of the head (“i” variants, DreamWear), the hose does not interfere when turning in sleep. Those who breathe heavily through their mouth are better served with a full-face mask or a chin strap.

The Right Size

What to do if the nasal mask leaves pressure marks?

Usually, the headgear is too tight or the cushion is worn out. Loosen the straps until the mask is just sealed while the device is running, and replace the cushion if it has become soft or torn.

Can I breathe through my mouth with a nasal mask?

If the mouth opens during sleep, air escapes there and the throat dries out. A chin strap keeps the mouth closed; alternatively, a full-face mask is the more suitable design.
